I just got a Nokia E71 and plugged it in to charge ... It has been about 3 hours and the bar that has 6 lines has reached the top, but the battery icon is still empty so basically it is doing nothing at the moment.
How do I know when it is fully charged?
P.S It is brand new so this is its first charge

The bars right above the battery icon on your screen should be animating/moving when you plugged the charger in the phone's charger port/socket, which means the phone is charging.
If the animation has stopped, even though the charger is still connected, then that means that phone is fully charged.
If it has been three hours of charging and still your phone isn't fully charged, then you might have a problem. It could either be your battery or your charger, either way, since it's brand-new, then warranty and maintenance should be free (see if you still have your receipt or, on some phones, have the Nokia Care card that comes with the manual envelope of your phone).

The battery "icon" will always be empty. It means nothing. While charging, the bars will blink 1-2-3-4-5-6. When they stop, the phone beeps and the blinking stops.
Mine is fully charged in abt 1 1/2 hours
