Are there any newer versions?
if you have a bit of time, could you also explain to me all this update stuff? its confusing to me as i just got the phone.
for example, i have no idea what the difference between software version and custom version is :s

Yes, there is a newer version current one is 40.0.005, updates are basically new features sets added to ur phone by the manufacturer..
for eg version 40 has kinetic scrolling this means u can smoothly scroll ur contacts list and images with upward or downward swipe which ur version does not support.Also this version makes ur 5800 more responsive and stable.
Take ur phone to nokia care they will update ur phone for free..
or you could update it yourself using ovi suite, install the latest nokia's ovi suite, connect ur phone in pc suite mode go to tools-->software updates in ovi suite's main window and follow the instructions, but make sure that ur battery is full and the update process is uninterrupted or else you will fry ur 5800 beyond repair..If you are un-sure about what you are doin, nokia care is your best bet.
software version is one that is currently running on ur device.
custom version is also same as above but provides info on specific 5800 models in specific country, also used when phone comes with contract (check out hong kong website of nokia for 5800 its has special free apps only for hong kong customers)
