HTC Mozart 7 : Is It Worth The Money?

Article by Mark Walters

The release of Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 operating system has recently been made on five separate handsets all at once, and of those five there is one handset that stands out from the crowd - the HTC Mozart 7. HTC have always had a close relationship with Microsoft and with the release of its latest mobile phone operating system, their collaborations have led to HTC releasing no less than three separate new handsets showcasing the new WP7 operating system.

The HTC Mozart 7s best features include the brand new Windows operating system, a 3.7 inch S-LCD screen and a full eight megapixel camera. What makes the camera special is not only the large resolution photos that you can take, but also the xenon flash and the high definition video record function. To power the Mozart 7, HTC incorporates into the design their, now common 1GHz snapdragon processor, and an eight gigabyte non-expandable internal memory drive. On top of these things are the industry standard features of WiFi capability, Bluetooth connectivity and GPS.

What makes this handset stand ahead of the crowd is its design. The Mozart 7 looks more than just a smartphone and can easily compete with the famed iPhone when it comes to attractiveness. Internally, whereas all other WP7 handsets that have been released from HTC, LG and Samsung offer five megapixel cameras, the Mozart 7 is the only one to be able to provide eight megapixels of density in digital image captures.

You would be forgiven for thinking that just because the Mozart 7 is named after a famous Austrian composer, that means it should offer superb sound and music reproduction; unfortunately you would be wrong as this is simply not the case. The Mozart 7 is competent at reproducing music but no more than that, plus the headphones supplied with the unit are of poor quality; although there are audio output settings which can adjust the levels and soundstage to your liking. Digital photo capture is another area that the Mozart 7 is lacking in, not because of quality, but more due to its color reproduction.

In summary, the Mozart 7 is a great phone with very few downsides and once the teething problems with the WP7 OS are ironed out, it will be an accomplished handset. Strangely, with the main USP of this phone compared to the other Windows Phone 7 handsets available now being the eight megapixel camera, this is the one thing that seriously lets it down; but that point aside, the Mozart 7 is a very capable unit and a great purchase if you are looking for a new smartphone.
