Can a off market cell phone battery mess up my HTC Evo 4G?I just bought a htc battery for my evo 4G and it is not the same as the battery as the one that came with my phone, so i am wondering if it is good to use an off market battery in my phone. Will it mess up my phone?

If it's decent quality and is designed for that kind of phone, it should be OK.

However, I have heard a bunch of horror stories about crappy batteries, so personally I would only buy replacement batteries from reputable sources - like the original phone's manufacturer, or from a store run by the carrier that sells the phone. etc.

You should have no problems with a replacement battery, but what I use is a universal battery cube, that can be used with any phone.
It has small USB connectors that allows it to be compatible with virtually all USB charged SmartPhones and Bluetooth devices including BlackBerry, Android based, HTC, Samsung, Motorola, Nokia SmartPhones and more.
I doubt it I will ever need to replace the battery.

that depends on the company you're getting it from. I'm getting one off ebay and i have no idea, and i've heard some bad stories about the batteries exploding and such but it shouldn't happen if you're getting it off somewhere reputable. Just try it first, and see if there are any problems, check every 5 minutes to see if the battery is heating up really bad, and if it's so hot that you dont want to touch it, just take out the battery and try again later. If it continues, it's junk

If you get a quality battery from a reputable source/vendor then I think everything will be fine. In particular some one who has been selling these batteries for an extended period of time and just didn't pop up yesterday. A battery that is specific for the htc evo.
