Verizon's New Super Smartphones – Compare the HTC Thunderbolt vs. Droid Bionic vs. iPhone 4

Article by Mobile Maiden

Verizon released the new HTC Thunderbolt 4G Smartphone today. It is similar to the HTC EVO 4G, but has a 4.3-inch Super LCD display, a front-facing video camera and yes, even a kickstand. It also has an 8.0 megapixel camera with LED flash, which takes super clear, sharp photos, even in bright lights. The Thunderbolt runs the HTC Sense 1GHz Snapdragon processor on the Android 2.2 OS, and has 8GB of on-board storage with a 768 RAM Memory card and comes with a preinstalled 32 GB microSD. It is being touted as a multimedia powerhouse. With Verizon's new LTE network, the Thunderbolt is blazingly fast! You can connect 8 Wi-Fi devices to it. The HTC Thunderbolt is pretty pricey at Verizon. It sells for 9 with a two year contract at Verizon, although you can get it through Wirefly.com for 0.

The new, soon-to-be-released Droid Bionic from Motorola is Verizon's 2nd Quarter celebrity. Sporting dual cameras, a VGA camera for video chatting and an 8.0 megapixel with dual LED flash and 720p HD recording capabilities ( at 30 FPS ), the Bionic is powered by a NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, clocked at 1 GHz per core and 512 MB of RAM. It is rumored to be coming with the new Android 3.0 OS, but that hasn't been confirmed yet. It has 2GB of ROM and 16GB of built in storage, which can be upgraded by another 32GB using a microSD card. It also will connect 8 Wi-Fi devices at a time. Rumors have it that Verizon will be offering this gem at around 0.

Verizon has been selling the new iPhone 4 since February. The Verizon version of the iPhone has a 3.5 inch screen, runs a 1Gz processor on the iOS4, has a 5.0 megapixel camera, and has a maximum storage of 32GB. You can connect only 5 Wi-Fi devices to it. More importantly, perhaps I should list what it doesn't have. It doesn't have Adobe Flash, dlna connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, HDMI output, Swype keyboarding, FM radio, or USB connectivity. The other thing the iPhone doesn't have is a removable battery. You are stuck with what you have and if it fails, you have to take it to an Apple store to have it replaced. Verizon has it priced at 9 for the 16GB and 9 for the 32GB iPhone. It isn't available through Wirefly.

There is no clear winner between the HTC Thunderbolt and the Droid Bionic. There is a clear loser at Verizon however, and that is the iPhone. Between the 2 Android Smartphones, you need to carefully consider your phone needs. Since both run the Google software, it really is more about whether you want a MotoBlur interface or a dual core processor. Wait to see what the Bionic like and then make a decision.
