How well does an unlocked HTC Diamond work in the US?I'm considering buying the HTC Diamond for T-Mobile. I live in the US and would need to buy the phone unlocked. Does it work well here? Or should I wait for the official US release?

First you should know that the Diamond (at least as currently released) is a GSM phone. This means that you cannot use it on networks like Verizon or Sprint. It will work on ATT or T-Mobile though (or some other local carriers that use GSM). The biggest concern, is that it does not use the 850Mhz band that US GSM carriers use. I believe that this would be more of a problem with ATT than T-Mobile, but T-Mobile does use 850Mhz in some of their roaming areas.
Do not dispair though! Apparently the Diamond does in fact support the 850 band, though it is currently disabled. There is an unofficial ROM update that can unlock this feature and allow it to work (and also supposedly helps the battery life as well).
I have not done it myself (I don't have a diamond...yet), but good things have been said about it. Just remember that updating the ROM is something that you do at your own risk, so be careful!
........Actually it appears that HTC has just released an *official* ROM update now that unofficial one has been leaked out. That takes away a lot of the risk of updating it yourself. The only issue now would be whether or not you are planning on having high speed data on it though ATT, but as you say you are planning on using T-Mobile, there shouldn't be any limitations. (Remember, it still has wifi for all your surfing needs.)
Good luck!!
