There could be several things causing this to happen to your phone. Does it turn off when you just tilt it a certain way, or does it work and then randomly turn off? Have you dropped the phone in water at any point? Have you dropped the phone on a hard surface at some point?
There could be loose connections inside the phone that are causing it to turn off. There could be damaged electrical components that are causing problems.
Before sending it for service, here are a couple of things that you can try:
1. Take steel wool and swipe the battery contacts. This will remove residue from the contacts that can be preventing the battery from connecting properly.
2. Reset your phone manually in case there is a software glitch that needs to be worked out. If your phone required that any updates be downloaded at some point, the download could be causing problems.
