In the Provinces of the Philippines the only way I can get on the
Internet is by means of a NOKIA 6680 Cellphone which acts
as a sort of Modem---it has a USB Cable Connection to the
PC---it is slower than Molasses in the Winter time (115kps)

I was assured in the Shop that I could install the CD-rom
which I bought from Nokia
on the new Laptop ---I tried and it failed (because it supports
Windows XP and not Vista Starter ---

Unfortunately it was Registered in my Wife's Name and
Credit Card---and returning items in the Philippines is
not something that can be done in the span of one
lifetime---which I have mostly used up anyway---

I would appreciate any advice from you'all
since I spent most of my life reading the Racing Form
and there was a lot about Horses but not much about
Laptops and Windows !

Sorry, in this case there is no easy way, at least not without spending more money or having a friend with the right software help you out.

What you could do is this - invest in a router, these are pretty cheap, 3 or 4 thousand peso. A network card for your PC, your laptop should already have one, if not, wifi will be fine.

Connect to the internet using your PC as you have done in the past, but on your PC enable internet connection sharing. In your router, you'll need to point your gateway and DNS at the IP address of your PC. Once done, you'll be able to access the internet using both your PC and Laptop at the same time.

Alternatively take a trip to the big city (Manila) and pick up a PCMCIA or USB 3G card from either Globe or Smart, then browse the web at way faster speeds than 115kbps from pretty much right across the country these days. If you are getting GPRS already, then this will work.
