Nokia 6600 gets shutdown at regular interval while the phone is idle. Is it a battery or software related?

My nokia 6600 gets shutdown or suspended at regular intervals. Its been now 2 years old without changing its original battery.

you may need a new battery, but first check the electrical contacts. they may need to be cleaned.
