Yes it is safe to update the cell phone but still i would recommend that there is no need to update as the newer version of the software sometimes have some unknown bugs which may cause problem to you after the update. On the other hand it may prove beneficial to update with the new and modified version of the apps. It all depends on what you want, if you want a change than go for the update.
