My boyfriend's phone is a Net-10 prepaid phone (Nokia 1600). All of a sudden, without doing anything to it, it just started displaying the message "Insert SIM." We obviously first made sure the SIM card was in; it was. I messed around with it a bit. All it has is a demo option, but it won't do anything like make calls or send text messages.
So we got on the Net-10 website and requested a new SIM card, and then forgot about the phone. It ended up getting stuck in the couch cushions. Then later that night, we heard his phone ringing. We found it. He could then do everything: look through contacts, read text messages, listen to voicemail, make calls. We figured that it was fixed by receiving a call.
Well, this morning we discovered that it wasn't working--it was saying "Insert SIM" again. I even tried calling it and I got his voicemail (yes, the phone was on). What is up with this possessed phone???
I cleaned it and put a folded up piece of paper on top of the SIM card. Now I can get it to turn on correctly but if the SIM card is even slightly moved when I put the battery cover on, it goes back to the Insert SIM display. And it still randomly switches sometimes.

sim cards are a little sensitive sometimes. First remove the sim and take a dry paper towel and rub the contacts on the phone and rub the sim card as well, try inserting it. If that doesnt help you may need to wedge a small piece of folded up paper between the sim and the sim holder on the phone .Just make sure it does not interfere with the connection of sim to phone.
