when i got my nokia phone replacment a paper in the box told me to charge it for 12 hours, so i did, and then i turned it on, but then when i read the owners manual it said to charge it for 24 hours before turning it on, so my question is, Can i charged my phone for 24 hours now and then it will be fine or is it just screwed for life?

The reason for giving the battery a long initial charge is to 'condition' it. You gave it 12 hours. Many people don't even do that. It's not screwed! You could let it drain through normal use and then give it a 24 hour shot if you wanted. The main thing is not to leave it on long charges on a regular basis though!

It's alright, don't panic.
When I got my new Nokia N79, I only charged it for about 8 hours, which is what the guy at the store told me. This is to condition it, and so the battery can be responsive, so seeing you charged it for 12 hours, your good to go. But here are some tips for you while charging your phone.
-Try to charge when the battery is fully drained.
-Charge the phone while turned off (this makes it more efficient and a shorter charge time, and it helps the battery cooperate)
-Make sure you don't over charge, a Nokia phone's average charge time is about 2.5 hours fully drained.
These tips are to make the battery life longer. My N79 lasted for 6 DAYS without charging! That's the beauty of Nokia phones.
