If in terms of Amps you mean mAh, then its OK. mAh only denotes how long the battery will last.

Can you be more specific? How much current is your battery rated for? How much current is the phone battery you're replacing rated for?
If your battery can put out more current than the phone requires, you should be ok, because the phone will just draw as much as it needs. However, if your battery cannot put out as much current as your phone requires, then it will probably not start up properly. Cell phone current peaks at start-up, so if you have a battery that cannot produce enough amps, then your phone may not turn on correctly.
