so if there was new update contentss, say the N8, can i update my phone via home wifi ? or do i HAVE TO use my mobile data plan. wouldnt like to waste a fair bit on software with the little 200mb standard. not willing to buy extra data packages.

is there any other way to update it other than mobile internet ?

You can use your WiFi. It isn't necessary that you use the Mobile Data Plan.
To do this, I would suggest you put your home WiFi on the highest priority in the Internet destination. Instructions follow:

Menu-> Settings -> Connectivity -> Settings
Ensure Switch to WLAN is set to Known WLANs only (safer)
Then click on Destinations -> Internet (or whichever destination your WiFi is listed under)
Your home WiFi should be listed right on top
If it is on a lower level, LONG PRESS on the Home WiFi Name on the list and select CHANGE PRIORITY from the menu that pops up.
Then tap on the Top Most name on the list.
Now, your WiFi should be the top on the list.

Once you are done with this, goto
Menu -> Applications -> Tools -> SW Update
Here click on Options -> Settings
Ensure Default Access Point is set to Internet (or Whichever Destination your WiFi is listed under)
Then Click BACK

Exit

Thats it... any updates, will now download on WiFi provided you are within range.
