nokia n96 is better as it has 16 gb internal memory compared to n79 which has only 50 mb
nokia n96 can support upto 24 gb , nokia n79 only 4 gb

Both are good and approx same in feature, if you are interested in slide phone with really good response then you go for N96, it is better than N79 because most of user are found good response from this phone. A good life with good feature so go for N96
